The Six Degree Project
A Human Web Experiment

Is it possible to deliver a package to someone in a location thousands of miles away
using the concept of “Six Degrees of Separation” or the "small world phenomenon?"

From Wikipedia: “Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the "Human Web")
refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps
away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most
six steps away from any other person on Earth.”

The goal: An envelope will be transported by hand (no mail or express shipping)
from a person in California and delivered to a person in another state using the power of the
human web with only of six transfers of control.

Sixteen students volunteered to participate in the experiment.
They received their envelopes on Thursday June 4, 2009.
The progress of the envelopes will be tracked on this page.
